چکیده

Phosphorus losses from turfgrass areas are perceived to contribute to water quality problems, yet a comprehensive review of P fate in turfgrass ecosystems is lacking. According to available data in the literature, phosphorus fertilizer inputs (2–10 kg ha–1) slightly exceed the estimated outputs of phosphorus in clippings (0.4–7.5 kg ha–1). Sediment losses from turf areas are negligible, generally limited to establishment, but runoff and leaching losses of P vary from inconsequential to severe depending on rate, source, and timing of fertilizer application. Soil properties were found to have a larger effect on runoff volume than vegetative properties. Highest runoff and leaching losses of P occurred when rainfall occurred or was simulated shortly after P fertilizer application. Leaching losses of P have historically been considered relatively minor; however, the limited research results available indicate that annual P leaching losses from mineral soils (0.2–0.7 kg ha–1) are similar in magnitude to runoff-P losses from turfgrass systems. One major gap in the knowledge is how P sources other than fertilizer (i.e., soil and plant tissue) and irrigation affect runoff and leaching losses of P. D.J. A two-dimensional two-phase numerical model is developed to predict transport and fate of oil slicks which resulted the concentration distribution of oil on the water surface. Two dimensional governing equation of fluid flow which consists mass and momentum conservation was solved using the finite difference method on the structured staggered grid system. The resulted algebric equations were so...

Effects of Rainfall and Runoff Variables on Phosphorus Loss in a Forest Watershed, Iran

Suspended sediment resulted from distributed soil erosions facilitates nutrient transportation and influences soil depletion. Phosphorus (P) is one of the major limiting nutrients controlling eutrophication of surface water. Irregular P load pulsed by heavy rainfall may damage the ecological quality of downstream waters. P transport study during rainfall events is important in both predicting a...

Nutrient leaching from mixed-species Florida residential landscapes.

Nutrient losses from residential lawns and landscapes can negatively impact water quality. Information about nutrient leaching from established residential landscapes containing a mixture of woody ornamental plants and turfgrass is limited. The objective of our study was to determine the effect of vegetation cover (turfgrass vs. woody ornamental) on nutrient leaching from established landscapes...

Evaluating nutrient impacts in urban watersheds: challenges and research opportunities.

This literature review focuses on the prevalence of nitrogen and phosphorus in urban environments and the complex relationships between land use and water quality. Extensive research in urban watersheds has broadened our knowledge about point and non-point pollutant sources, but the fate of nutrients is not completely understood. For example, it is not known how long-term nutrient cycling proce...

Determination of Crop Water Stress Index for Irrigation Scheduling of Turfgrass (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers.) under Drought Conditions

Abstract The crop water stress index (CWSI) is a valuable tool for monitoring and quantifying water stress as well as for irrigation scheduling. A field experiment was conducted during spring and summer 2012 at Research Station of College of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Darab, Shiraz University, Iran, to determine CWSI of  turfgrass for irrigation scheduling. Four levels of water regime...
